Agoraphobia sounds like a really complicated word but it basically just means you fear the feeling you experience during a panic attack. It's kind of like having a phobia of panic attacks so you avoid places, people or things you associate with having a panic attack e.g open spaces, crowded places, shopping centres etc. Over time your world shrinks leaving you reluctant to leave your house or anywhere that may elicit a panic attack.
It's not uncommon for people to assume agoraphobia means you can't leave your house (which it kinda does) but the reason you fear leaving your house is over time you find yourself avoiding more and more places because you're safer at home.
For me staying home allows my body to recuperate cause I'm constantly experiencing anxious thoughts and physical symptoms. Home is my safe space and although I still experience anxiety it's not as intense as it is when I throw myself into anxiety-provoking situations.
